About IEEE-HKN

IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN) is the honor society of IEEE and is dedicated to encouraging and recognizing excellence in the IEEE fields of interest. The Zeta Chi Chapter at the University of Central Florida was established to recognize those who have conferred honor on their Alma Mater by distinguished scholarship, activities, leadership, and exemplary character as students in electrical or computer engineering.

Our mission is to promote excellence in the profession and in education through an emphasis on scholarship, character, and attitude. We strive to:

  • Recognize outstanding students and professionals
  • Foster collaborative networking among members
  • Develop future leaders for the profession
  • Encourage lifelong learning and professional development

Membership

Eligibility Requirements

Membership in IEEE-HKN is by invitation only and is based on the following criteria:

  • Students must have at least a 3.0 Cumulative GPA
  • Students must have passed EEL 3004C - Linear Circuits 1 - with a grade of "B" or higher.
  • Graduate students must have completed at least one semester of full-time equivalent coursework (9 credits) with a minimum GPA of 3.5.

In addition to academic excellence, candidates must demonstrate exemplary character and a commitment to the IEEE-HKN ideals of scholarship, character, and attitude. Students must submit a letter of recommendation (or be recommended to the chapter by the department), serving as an attestation to these character traits prior to initiation.

Prior to each initiation, students who have stated their interest in joining will be sent information on how to do so. In addition, the department will be invited to provide recommendations for our chapter to those that they encourage joining.
